Express Delivery: Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Letter to You’ Arrives at No. 1 In Australia


Bruce Springsteen and Ariana Grande are the respective King and Queen of Australia’s charts this week.

The Boss is back at No. 1 with Letter to You, Springsteen’s 20th studio. Letter arrives at the summit of the ARIA Albums Chart, for the American rock legend’s fifth leader.

Springsteen’s previous album, 2019’s Western Stars, also hit top spot.

Coming in at No. 2 is the self-titled sixth album from Brisbane indie rock outfit Ball Park Music. The followup to Good Mood (No. 5 in February 2018), Ball Park Music becomes their fifth top 10.

Damon Albarn’s Gorillaz swing into the Top 10 with their seventh studio album, Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez. It’s new at No. 5 on the ARIA Albums Chart, and it rules the nation’s Vinyl Albums Chart.

Another British act Nothing But Thieves make their first top 10 appearance with their third album, Moral Panic, new at No. 8.

There’s a top 20 debut for Pearl Jam’s MTV Unplugged set, which was recorded back in 1992 but hasn’t had a wide, official release until now. It bows at No. 20.

Meanwhile, Grande bags her fourth No. 1 on the ARIA Singles Chart with “Positions,” the title track from her sixth and latest album.

Ari also ruled the survey with “No Tears Left To Cry” (April 2018), “Thank U, Next” (November 2018) and “7 Rings” (January 2019).

Also new to the singles chart this week is American country star Luke Combs, who takes out just his second appearance as “Forever After All” debuts at No. 14. The track appears on What You See Ain’t Always What You Get, the deluxe edition of What You See Is What You Get, which climbs 13-4 on the national albums tally.

Finally, The Kid LAROI earns his highest peak on the ARIA Singles Chart with “So Done,” which debuts at No. 20. The Sydney-raised, Los Angeles-based rapper is chasing more glory at the Nov. 25 ARIA Awards, where he’s up for three trophies.
